ABSTRACT:Papers and images of the work of Chicago art metalsmith Ernst Hagerstrom.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:Photocopies and black and white photographic prints.
ORIGINATION: Hagerstrom, Ernst (1894-1969)
ACQUISITION INFORMATION:The Ernst Hagerstrom Collection was the gift of Barbara Endter of Rochester, New York, in 1996. In November 1997, Barbara Endter donated additional photocopies and photographs taken by Dale Endter of Hagerstrom objects owned by Ingrid Schmidt, Ernst Hagerstrom's niece.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:
Ernst Hagerstrom was born in 1894, in Sweden, and came to the United States in 1925. The next year he opened a shop called the Swedish Art Metal Co. in Chicago, Illinois. In 1938, he moved himself and his business to Evanston, Illinois. He later moved again and opened a shop in Wheeling, Illinois. Hagerstrom designed and executed a wide range of metalwork from architectural pieces to home accessories and functional objects. Hagerstrom also executed several pieces for exhibits in the 1933-1934 Chicago World's Fair. Hagerstrom died in Wheeling in 1969.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE:
The collection includes photocopied images of metal work from two of Hagerstrom's photo albums, with dates given from 1933 to 1952. Additional photocopies came from an album belonging to the late Monica Dempsey, Ernst Hagerstrom's niece, now in the possession of another niece, Ingrid Schmidt. The box also contains photographs of objects owned by Ingrid Schmidt. The portfolio contains photocopies of pages from a Hagerstrom family scrapbook with dates ranging from 1927 to 1966.
