ABSTRACT:Two presentation portfolios contain photographs of Chicago artist Paul Trebilcock's portrait paintings of business and society leaders.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Black and white photographic prints.
ORIGINATION: Trebilcock, Paul, 1902-1981
ACQUISITION INFORMATION:This collection was donated by Amaylia Trebilcock, widow of Paul Trebilcock, to the Ryerson and Burnham Archives in 1984.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:
Paul Trebilcock was born in Chicago on February 13, 1902. After graduating from the Oak Park and River Forest High School in 1920, he attended the University of Illinois for two years, 1920-1922. He then attended classes at the School of the Art Institute, where he was a pupil of Seyffert. Trebilcock also studied and worked in Paris, Madrid, Florence and London. On April 8, 1929 he married Amaylia Chiarina Castaldo, of New York City, whom he frequently painted. Trebilcock received numerous awards and honors for his portrait paintings including the first Hallgarten Prize from the National Academy of Design, 1931; Frank G. Logan medal from The Art Institute of Chicago, 1928; and the William M. R. French gold medal from the Art Institute in 1929. Trebilcock was elected an associate member of the National Academy of Design, 1932; he also belonged to the New York Society of Painters, the Century Association, and the Tavern and Cliff Dwellers Clubs in Chicago. For a period of time he maintained studios in both New York City and Chicago. Trebilcock died in New York City April 8, 1981.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE:
This collection contains 124 mounted black and white photographs of Trebilcock's portrait paintings. Most sitters are identified on the verso, but few paintings have been dated. The mounted collection also includes copies of Trebilcock's biographical entries in Who's Who in America, America's Young Men, and Who's Who in American Art; and two newspaper articles published in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, October 6, 1935 and The New York Times, July 5, 1931.

ORGANIZATION AND ARRANGEMENT:
The photographs are arranged in two subsections: identified sitters and unidentified sitters. In the former group, photographs are listed in alphabetical order by sitter's last name. In the latter group, photographs are listed in the order in which they were mounted in the album.
