ACQUISITION INFORMATION:The collection was a gift from Dr. Guy Garrison to the Ryerson and Burnham Archives in 2004.

HISTORICAL NOTE:
Dr. Guy Garrison, professor of information science at Drexel University from 1968-1992, taught a course on space planning for library services. Over the years his collection of brochures and plans from libraries grew to cover over 75 academic and public libraries.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE:
This collection contains materials relating to the design of public and academic libraries. Series I contains photographs of public and academic libraries before and after construction. Series II consists of library brochures, floor plans, reports, and clippings addressing public and academic library design. Series III contains professional correspondence between Dr. Guy Garrison and library personnel regarding additions to his collection of library brochures.

SERIES I: PHOTOGRAPHS. Divided by public or academic focus and arranged alphabetically by library name.

SERIES II: PRINTED MATERIALS. Divided by public or academic focus and arranged alphabetically by library name.

SERIES III: CORRESPONDENCE. Arranged chronologically.
