ABSTRACT:The work of Chicago industrial designer James Teague is represented in this collection by photographs, professional papers and physical samples of several of his designs.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:Forty-one portfolio pages consisting of printed papers and black and white photographic prints as well as loose black and white photographic prints, color photographic prints, additional printed papers, realia and a studio site map.

ACQUISITION INFORMATION:This collection was a gift to the Ryerson and Burnham Archives from the estate of James Teagues' widow, Dorothy Rawlins Teague, in 2001.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:
James Teague attended The School of The Art Institute of Chicago, full time, from the fall of 1937 to the spring of 1939. He did not graduate but received an Honorable Mention in 1937 for a class in architecture and one Faculty Honorable Mention for the 1938-39 academic year. Teague is best known as a partner in the industrial design firm of Painter, Teague & Petertil in Chicago. He later left that office to start his own firm, Jim Teague/Design, from his home at 443 Webster Avenue in Chicago, where he produced product, packaging, and graphic designs for a wide range of clients.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE:
The collection consists of a presentation portfolio and miscellaneous professional papers, printed materials, product samples and photographs relating to graphic and industrial designs by James Teague from the 1950s until his retirement.

ORGANIZATION AND ARRANGEMENT:
SERIES I: JIM TEAGUE/DESIGN PORTFOLIO. Materials are maintained in the order in which they were bound in the portfolio.

SERIES II: PROFESSIONAL PAPERS. Photographs, printed material, magazines, office stationery, arranged alphabetically by type. N.B.: These loose materials were previously located in the jacket cover of the portfolio.
