ABSTRACT:Project reports, maps, statistics, and correspondence make up the collection kept by landscape architect, Mary Long Rogers.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Holograph notes, correspondence, typescript, diazo prints,and maps.

ACQUISITION INFORMATION:The collection was a gift from the Special Collections Department of the Robert E. Kennedy Library to the Ryerson and Burnham Archives in August, 2003.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:
Active in urban planning of Chicago neighborhoods and the beginning of post-war development, Mary Long Rogers was a landscape architect and city planner during the late 1930s through the 1950s. She was a partner of the Rogers & Rogers firm with her husband, architect Lincoln Rogers, while she lived in Chicago. She worked with many architects including Arthur Fitzgerald, Wallace G. Atkinson, and Allan C. Williams. She was involved with the Illinois State Housing Board, the Southtown Planning Association, and the Chicago Plan Commission. She also spent time living in Winnetka, IL and Clayton, MO.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE:
This collection documents a variety of projects that Mary Long Rogers was involved with or collected materials about. Many of these projects deal specifically with aspects of city planning, urban renewal, or public housing in Chicago including: the Southtown Planning Association (1939-1940), the Jane Addams Housing project (Racine and Roosevelt area, 1941), the Near West Side Redevelopment plan (early 1940s), and A Plan for a Better Chicago Contest (1945). Other projects concern the urbanization of the Columbia Basin Towns, WA (1942-1943), Taylorville, IL (1948-1949), and Near Verona, WI (1953).
