ABSTRACT:The collection consists of two groups of materials: first, a selection of mid to late 20th century exterior and interior product samples (e.g. paint chips, veneer samples, tiles); and second, late 19th to late 20th century manufacturers' trade catalogs, brochures, product samples, with some associated photographs. Many aspects of general building and construction, as well as architectural details, are represented.

ACQUISITION INFORMATION:The bulk of both the product samples and trade catalogs were the gift of John B. Weber in 2008. An earlier portion of trade catalogs was purchased by the Ryerson and Burnham Archives from Prairie Avenue Bookstore in 2000. The collection also includes additional donations by Robert Furhoff and Cynthia Winter.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE:
The collection includes trade catalogs from the late 19th and early 20th century, with some later additions. Many aspects of general building and construction, as well as architectural details, are represented.

The collection is arranged in one series according to Sweet's Categories. See File Plan below for additional information. Each main Sweet's category forms a subseries. Within each subseries, each subcategory has its own folder. Any general items that do not fit into the preset subcategories are filed at the end of the subseries.
