Thomas Eddy Tallmadge (1876-1940) graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1898 and entered the Chicago architectural firm D.H. Burnham and Company. In addition to his architectural practice, Tallmadge taught at the Armour Institute, gave lectures at The Art Institute of Chicago, served on the Library Committee for the Burnham Library, and wrote several books on American and English architectural history, including Architecture in Old Chicago and The Colonial village, a reproduction of early American life in the 13 colonies, a guide to the buildings of historical interest. Tallmadge also authored John W. Norton: American painter, 1876-1934.
