ABSTRACT:Architectural drawings and specifications by architectural firm Mundie and Jensen for the Schillo Motor Sales Company building in Chicago.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:Photocopies, laser prints, microfilm and a CD-ROM.
ORIGINATION: Mundie & Jensen, Architects
ACQUISITION INFORMATION:This source of acquisition for this collection is unknown.

HISTORICAL NOTE:
William Bryce Mundie (1863-1939) was born and educated in Canada. He came to Chicago in 1884 to work as a draftsman in the office of William LeBaron Jenney. After seven years, the two architects formed the firm Jenney and Mundie, which existed until Jenney's retirement in 1905. At the time of Jenney's departure, Mundie joined with Elmer C. Jensen (1870-1955) to form the firm Jenney, Mundie and Jensen, which became Mundie and Jensen in 1913. The partners worked in a wide range of styles from Gothic Revival to Chicago school and designed office, commercial, manufacturing, and private club buildings in Chicago and the Midwest. The Mundie and Jensen partnership lasted until 1936, when Mundie retired and two senior draftsmen were taken on as partners to form the firm Mundie, Jensen, Bourke and Havens.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE:
The Schillo Motor Sales Company Collection consists of photocopies of the specifications and scanned image files of architectural drawings for the building at 2317-19 South Michigan Avenue, designed by Mundie & Jensen Architects. Stanley K. Gage was the owner at the time of construction. The building is no longer extant. The photocopied specifications, arranged according to the index, are dated 5/7/1917, with addenda dated June 1917. The blueprint working drawings were numbered, dated, and signed by the architects in the title block at the lower right corner of each sheet; the sheets were 15" high by 30.5" wide. The drawings were microfilmed and the film was then scanned to create full-size high-resolution TIFF files. Due to irreparable water and mold damage, the original documents were destroyed.
