BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:
Terry R. Myers, born in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1965, completed his undergraduate degree in art history and studio art at DePauw University in 1987. From 1988-1991 he studied at CUNY’s Graduate Center and during this time began his career as an art critic and curator, writing for such publications as Art Review, Art/Text, The Brooklyn Rail, and Modern Painters and curating exhibitions at the Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills, the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, and the Rhona Hoffman Gallery in Chicago. He has also edited and contributed essays to numerous books and exhibition catalogues including Sunshine & Noir: Art in LA 1960-1997, Vitamin P: New Perspectives in Painting, and The Indiscipline of Painting. Myers wrote several books on painting and painters, such as Mary Heilmann: Save the Last Dance for Me, Cecily Brown: The Sleep Around and the Lost and Found, and Painting: Documents of Contemporary Art.

Myers has also held a number of academic positions. Beginning in 1990, Myers taught at institutions such as the Pratt Institute, Otis College of Art and Design, ArtCenter College of Design, and Royal College of Art, London. He joined the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2000 as visiting faculty and became an associate professor in 2007 and later, Chair of Painting and Drawing. Myers moved from Chicago to Los Angeles in 2018.
