He worked for the industrial designer Raymond Loewy and then at the Chicago office of Skidmore and Owings before establishing his own firm in 1945. He is best known for designing churches and commercial structures in the Chicago area and for urban plans for the post-World War II suburbs. The collection includes project files, business papers, professional and personal correspondence, personal papers, diaries and appointment books, photographs, slides, and negatives relating to Chamales' architectural education, projects, and city planning.
